Areas of Interest: Galaxy formation, astronomical instrumentation
David Crampton is primarily interested in studying the formation and evolution of galaxies at high redshift using gravitational lensing as a tool to magnify and enhance their visibility. He is also interested in the development of forefront instrumentation for very large telescopes, especially those that work in the optical and infrared wavelength regions. Until recently he led the instrumentation program for the Thirty Meter Telescope. He is currently very active in the project to upgrade the CFHT from a 3.6m telescope to a 10m wide field spectroscopic facility.
