The observing weather has been poorer than the average for the past six years, a total of 66 plates being obtained on 8 nights as compared with an average of 92 plates on 12 nights for the corresponding month of the past six years.
Director J. S. Plaskett obtained 41 spectra on 3 nights and measured 39 for radial velocity. Examined and noted for type and peculiarities B-type spectra. Work on binaries and articles. Handled the usual correspondence and administrative work.
[Plaskett spoke to the BC Land Surveyors Association, Ed.]
Assistant Director W. E. Harper worked 5 nights and obtained 23 spectra and measured 27 spectra for radial velocity. Got periods of [blank] Cephei and HR 8257. Prepared two lectures and lectured before the Women’s Educational Club, Victoria, Women’s Canadian Club, Vancouver and the Vancouver Institute. About half of the month devoted to preliminary survey of A-type spectra for clue to absolute magnitude.
Astronomer H. H. Plaskett obtained one fairly successful plate on one night. He prepared for interferometer observations on three days. Finished measuring the plates of NGC 7027 and checked computations for it and the Orion Nebula.
Assistant Astronomer J. A. Pearce obtained 1 plate on 1 night. He measured and reduced 38 spectrograms. Worked on a table of wave lengths, engine readings, radial velocities of lines found in Class B stars. Usual clock comparisons.
Astronomical Computer S. N. Hill measured and reduced 45 spectrograms for radial velocity. Converted 40 right ascensions and declinations to latitude and longitude and filled out cards. On leave ½ day.
Senior Clerk Typist Miss H. R. Keay handled the usual accounts, correspondence, plates and reports. Revised the mailing list making the necessary corrections. Typed one article.
Instrument Maker Foreman T. T. Hutchison assisted in observing on 7 nights. Placing door in end housing of the telescope and renewing bolts in rights ascension clamp.
