grimes


3CRR, 6CE and 7CRS [OIII] data

 

We present the [OIII] data used in Grimes, Rawlings & Willott, 2004, MNRAS, 349, 503.

All data is presented in an Omega_M=0.3, Omega_Lambda=0.7 cosmology with H_0 = 70 km/s/Mpc.
The original source for the 3CRR data is Chris Willott’s table of [OII] and [OIII] emission line data from many different sources, available here.
The 6CE data is taken from Rawlings, Eales & Lacy (2001) .
The 7CRS data is taken from Willott et al. (2003) .

The classifications are taken from Grimes, Rawlings & Willott, 2004, MNRAS, 349, 503 and may have changed from the original papers in some cases:
Q – quasar;
WQ – weak quasar;
HEG – high-excitation FRII radio galaxy;
LEG – low-excitation FRII radio galaxy;
FRI – FRI radio galaxy;
G – radio galaxy if LEG/HEG distinction is unknown.
z is the redshift and is taken from the sources listed above. D is the linear size given in kpc.
L_151 is the radio luminosity at 151 MHz in units of log_10 W/Hz/sr. L_[OIII] is the [OIII] emission line luminosity in units of W.

The column Ref describes how L_[OIII] was calculated.

A ‘-‘ means that the value of L_[OIII] is calculated from a measured [OIII] flux.

In cases where [OIII] could not be measured, another line such as [OII], Lyalpha etc may have been measured and L_[OIII] calculated using the line ratios from McCarthy (1993) or the [OII]-[OIII] relation presented in Grimes, Rawlings & Willott, 2004, MNRAS, 349, 503.

‘LW’ or ‘[OII]LW’ means that either the [OIII] or [OII] flux has been taken from R.Laing / J.Wall priv. comm., and is not published elsewhere.

‘rand’ means that no data was available for these radio galaxies and [OIII] was caluculated from the L_151 – L_[OIII] correlation using Gaussian scatter (Grimes, Rawlings & Willott, 2004, MNRAS, 349, 503).
‘EW’ means that the L_[OIII] was calculated for these quasars by assuming an equivalent width of 30 angstroms. A ‘*’ designates that the [OII] luminosity has been estimated from the measured H alpha luminosity assuming equal line strength.

For 3C325, ‘G’ means that the L_[OIII] is calculated from an [OII] flux.

For some of the 6CE objects, ‘[OII]ew’ indicates that the luminosity is estimated from an r- or R-band magnitude and an observed equivalent width, or if there is a limit, an assumed equivalent width (see Rawlings, Eales & Lacy (2001) for more details).

Alpha and beta are the principal component parameters described in Grimes, Rawlings & Willott, 2004, MNRAS, 349, 503.

V is the V magnitude for the 3CRR sample and the K magnitude for the 6CE and 7CRS samples, except that a * means that the R magnitude is given instead.
